PRIVATE SENDAI CITY TOUR - IGNITE SENDAI CONFERENCE 2019

Please Note, this tour is for registered conference attendees only. Please present your digital ticket at the meeting point & when boarding the bus.

DATE: Saturday 23rd November
MEETING TIME: 8:45am Sendai Station
RETURN TIME: 3:45pm Sendai Station area


MEETING POINT:

We will be meeting at the Stained Glass Window right opposite the JR line gates in Sendai Station. Volunteers with Ignite Sendai signs will be waiting to meet you and guide you to the bus.

The bus will depart at 9am sharp, so please allow plenty of time to find the meeting space.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring a water bottle, sensible walking shoes & some wet weather protection (umbrella / rain jacket). We also recommend bringing some cash if you are interested in trying some local delicacies or purchasing souvenirs as some of the more traditional areas we are visiting may not be able to accept card.


TOUR ITINERARY

Please note this itinerary may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. In any event, we will work to continue to bring you the best tour possible of Sendai City, and we appreciate your understanding.

Sendai City Tour - November 23rd 2019

8:45am Meet our tour volunteers at the Stained Glass window in Sendai Station opposite the JR Line Gates.

9:00am(sharp) Bus departs for Matsushima

9:40am Arrive Matsushima

9:40am-10:30am Walking tour of Matsushima
Including local attractions highlighting the entrepreneur spirit and local beauty of the area.

10:30am-11:15am Semi-guided free time in Matsushima.
You will be free to enjoy the area with a choice of visiting local stores, trying traditional Kokeshi doll painting, speaking with our tour guides about the area, or enjoying a local temple.

11:15am Assemble at the meeting point for busses.

11:30am Bus Departs for Arahama Elementary School.

12:00pm Arrive at Arahama Elementary School & Tsunami Museum.

12:00pm-12:50pm Guided tour of Arahama Elementary School & Surrounding area.
The area of Arahama was completely devastated by the 2011 tsunami, but this school, now museum shares a beacon of hope. We will visit Arahama Elementary School which provided shelter and the successful rescue of 21 people during the disaster and will be able to learn more about the impact and recovery of the area.

1:00pm Bus departs from Arahama Elementary School.

1:45pm Arrive at the site of Sendai Castle
An historic site in Sendai, the ruins of Sendai castle provide a glimpse into the history of the great city you see today. Hear about Sendai’s history, view the city skyline from the viewing platform and have the opportunity to try local delicacies at this stop.

1:45pm-2:30pm Guided tour of the Sendai Castle Ruins area.

2:40pm Bus departs Sendai Castle.

2:40pm-3:00pm Driving tour through some of Sendai’s famous downtown areas as we make our way back to Sendai Station.

3:00pm Arrive at Sendai Station, transfer to Sendai AER Lookout Terrace.

3:15pm-3:30pm View the city from the sky on the 31st floor of Sendai’s AER Building.
From here you will be able to see many of the places visited during the tour and hear a summary of this current city today.

3:30pm-3:45pm Official finish of the tour, thanks and dismissal.

After the tour completion volunteers will be available to guide you back to the Stained Glass Window in Sendai Station.
